She has sold an impressive 75 million records worldwide and since the 1970s, earned over 100 singles on Billboard Hot Country Songs with 25 of those reaching the top spot. Additionally, Reba’s career in acting and television spans six seasons with her own show – Reba – as well as a clothing line she owns.

McEntire was the eldest of four children, raised in her native Oklahoma. With her mother’s assistance, they formed The Singing McEntires, hosting performances and recording for a small label. McEntire progressed to study at Southeastern Oklahoma State University with ambitions of becoming a public school teacher; but she still found time to sing at rodeos. During one such display, country star Red Steagall recognized her vocal abilities and helped introduce her to PolyGram/Mercury Records in 1975. Subsequently, both mother and daughter relocated to Nashville that year.

Throughout the early to mid 80s, PolyGram/Mercury released a series of McEntire’s albums and singles, which although gained some success, ultimately ended in limited success. However, several top ten country songs beckoned a stronger momentum for McEntire – “(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven”, “I’m Not That Lonely Yet” and her first number one “Can’t Even Get the Blues”. Despite this, she still wasn’t satisfied with her career trajectory and decided to sign with MCA Records in 1984. This proved to be fruitful as My Kind of Country (1984) became her most successful release yet; spawning two number one Billboard country singles and introduced a more traditional musical style. Over the following decade, McEntire released seven studio albums and achieved ten more number one country hits – including “One Promise Too Late”, “The Last One to Know” and the prestigious Grammy Award-winning “Whoever’s in New England”.

In 1991, McEntire tragically lost eight members of her band in a plane crash in San Diego, California. The experience spurred her to create her highest-selling album to date, the critically acclaimed For My Broken Heart. This was followed by the commercially successful Read My Mind (1994), What If It’s You (1996) and If You See Him (1998); each record featuring top chart country singles including “The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter”, “How Was I to Know” and a duet with Brooks and Dunn entitled “If You See Him/If You See Her”. McEntire’s foray into acting began in 1990 with Tremors and she earned the 2001 role of Annie Oakley in the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun. The same year, The WB launched Reba; a TV series starring McEntire herself. Recently it was announced that in 2023, she will be joining The Voice as a coach.
